At the height of the pandemic, Médecins Sans Frontières opened a temporary COVID-19 field hospital in a sports hall in Khayelitsha, South Africa. Dr. Trevor Mnguni of Khayelitsha District Hospital expresses his relief at having a health partner “right across the road”, while MSF’s Dr. Eric Goumaere explains the challenges of setting up a huge ventilation system and ensuring supplies of vital equipment. MSF has treated locals for TB and HIV for over 20 years and the organization continues to support them through COVID-19.
